President’s day weekend we decided to ‘get out of Dodge’ for a day and went to Boise. Since we had to be back for swim lessons late afternoon we decided to just walk the greenbelt and take in the Zoo. We parked at the MK Nature Center and walked the mile down to the Zoo on the greenbelt path. I still marvel at both kids being old enough to walk the whole distance and not needing a stroller anymore. Well, Jack walked the whole time, Emilie got a ride on Kevin’s shoulders most of the way there and back, but she did walk around the Zoo.
There were lots of ducks and geese on the river and grazing in the park. We even saw a Blue Heron. While sunny, it was pretty cool. Coats required for sure and, in hindsight, I probably should have put gloves on the kids. Most of the Zoo critters were out trying to soak up as many rays as possible. You definitely didn’t want to be in the shade for to long.
Chilly or not the kids had a great time. The rode the carousel (Jack is now big enough to ride without an adult), feed the goats, goofed off in the giant Grouse eggs, slid down the Spider Monkey slide, and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the Zoo before we moseyed on back home. A quick trip, but thoroughly worth it!
