Whew! What a weekend that was. Basically we ended up with three consecutive days of parties and cake…..soooooo much cake. I’m kind of sweeted out right now. Give me some roughage please!
It all kicked off Friday night with an open house for our friends and co-workers. There is a fantastic street of Christmas lights just down the road so we encouraged them to go look and then stop in for some cider, cocoa, and treats.![]()
The evening was a blast all around. Lots and lots of yummy food and good conversation. We might have to make in an annual tradition… The whole night went off without a hitch except for Emilie cutting her baby toe on something and dripping blood all over the carpet about 10 minutes before everyone was set to arrive.
That baby toe of hers is so tiny regular Band-Aids were too big and small Band-Aids didn’t have enough absorbency. Eventually I just trimmed up a gauze pad, busted out the medical tape and fashioned a whole toe/foot covering. Slapped a sock over the top and she was good to go. The best part was when Kevin said to her, “You’re bleeding like a stuck pig aren’t you?” and Emilie looked at him and said, “Oink, oink!”
On Saturday we continued on with our party theme. The kids had been invited to a birthday part for a friend of theirs at a local family fun center. Another wonderful time with friends…and more cake. We’ve never taken the kids to an arcade before and they had such a great time playing games and mini-golfing with their friends. Seems both the kids like Skee-ball, can’t say I blame them, but they are a little scary just chucking balls down the lane.
By sheer dumb luck Jack managed to hit a jackpot on a dump truck coin game. There were 3 toy dump trucks (what attracted him to the game in the first place) and the goal was to roll your token down a moveable shoot and get it into the back of a dump trucks. One ticket for trying, five for getting in a truck bed, and if you managed to hit a little red flag up on top of the truck the bed would lift and dump. That earned you 5 tickets per coin in the bed. Of course the truck Jack dumped was loaded and 500 tickets later I was trying the corral the mass of tickets spewing across the floor.
Sunday was, or course, my birthday. 31 years old!!!
We went to church in the morning where they just happened to be serving, you guessed it, more cake during the social hour afterwards. After that I was rather over the sweets but the kids wouldn’t let me get through a birthday without sticking a candle in something and singing happy birthday. Therefore we settled on a large gourmet cupcake with mint chocolate icing.
It was a nice relaxing birthday I thought. Kevin and the kids took me out to lunch after church then we just chilled out at the house for awhile. Opened presents (thank you everyone) ate the afore mentioned cupcake and then went out to see the lights at Rock Creek (a post on that is coming). After getting the kids to bed we capped off the day with an ‘adult’ beverage and a movie than wasn’t produced by Disney and/or Dreamworks … something of a novelty around these parts (We watched TED).
A busy yet fun weekend all around. Plus, I’m pretty sure I’m good on cake until New Year’s at least…
