Friday Night Lights

IMG_2047Friday night was the town’s annual light parade. It’s been so cold this week – teens during the daylight hours – and the parade is after dark, that we really thought hard about whether or not to take the kids downtown to see it. The tipping point was reached when I got a message from a friend Thursday night asking if the family would like to ride in the ‘float’ her husband’s work enters. Her husband works for the Eastern Idaho Railroad and they borrow a trolley from the state chapter of Operation Lifesaver. They were needing kids to ride and wave. Both kids seemed eager when asked so we agreed.

Emilie had a blast. She waved for the most part. Then her hands got cold in her gloves so she stole mine and kept on waving until just about the end. Jack, well, the lights on the trolley were powered by a little generator towed in back and the noise bothered him. He spent most of the ride hiding under a blanket under the guise of his face being cold. Still, at the end he popped his head out and said, “That was AWESOME!! I had fun!” What a goofball.

I did feel a little bad that we didn’t get to talk to our friends much. It was so cold that everyone pretty much fled to the warmth of their cars once it was all over, us included. Still, a big thanks to them (they know who they are) for a cold but fun evening.
