Pollywogs

IMG_6331

Last night was the final night of swim lessons for both kids. Both kids have had a blast this year. They both love the water, even when the wind blows and they are both shaking like leaves by the time class is over.

IMG_6385With Jack being over age three this summer he was big enough to do ‘solo’ or parent-less lessons for the first time. (He’s done the waterbabies class with me the past two summers.) In fact this was his first time doing any sort of class/lesson without a parent. Needless to say, I had some trepidations. Jack can be a handful if he chooses too and I pictured mayhem and having his instructor ask not to bring him back.

IMG_6888IMG_6329He surprised me though, and did FANTASTIC!!. He’s got a love for the water and that is enough to keep him in the pool and trying. He got a ‘proficient’ in all categories on his swim card. However, his teacher recommend him doing the Pike level class again. His attention span is still pretty short and that is the only thing holding him from moving on. He’s a typical 3 year old and you have to work hard to maintain his focus for the 30 minute lesson.

IMG_6921As with previous years he still loves the slide and jumping off the side of the pool. This year he even got to give the diving board a try! At first he was gung-ho, then he got to the edge of the board and looked down. After that he was ready to go back to dry land, but his teacher encourage him to try and eventually he let her lower him to another teacher waiting in the water.

Emilie was a natural in the waterbabies class. I wasn’t sure she’d take to it as well as she did, as she is a little more cautious about things than Jack. Once it the water she was like a fish though. She likes to blow bubbles in the water. She even dipped her whole face in a few times. The only thing she really protested about was lying on her back in the water.

IMG_6897As with most of the under three set Emilie found the water aerobics ladies to be quite distracting. Something about ladies hoping around to 80’s music is just fascinating. Thankfully we didn’t have the class after ours as that group got to watch water Zumba…talk about mesmerizing!

After our last class we took the kids to the Burger Stop for milkshakes. Kind of a victory celebration for completing class and all. We don’t go to the Burger Stop often, and I forget that their portions are huge. One order of fries is enough to feed four and the milkshake made Jack’s eyes HUGE….and it was a child-size one.

Even with help from Emilie they didn’t even make it through half. ;-P Oh well, at least it will make for some great memories down the road…..
