Once the Clark Co. Fair wrapped up we gathered up my parents and headed down to Long Beach, WA for a few days of relaxation before heading back to Idaho. I have some very good friends from my college days who live there with their two kids and I was looking forward to spending some time with them as well.
Plus, my friend is a co-owner of Long Beach Coffee Roasters, which really is “the best roast on the coast” like the claim. I even think it’s the best coffee in the PNW, and I’m not just saying that because she’s my friend. If you are a coffee lover and you are ever in Long Beach, stop by…you won’t regret it!
We stayed at the Seaview Motel and Cottages. The owners were very friendly. It was a short walk to the beach, and the prices were reasonable. Especially for peak season rates. While it wasn’t the shiniest, newest, or sparklest place in town. The cabin we stayed in was clean and comfortable.
Kite Festival was going on while we were there and both kids enjoyed watching the kites. Jack LOVED the sand and the ocean. Long Beach isn’t really a safe swimming beach, but we let him dip his toes as long as Mom or Dad had a hand. He would run and toss handfuls of sand into the ocean, shrieking and laughing the whole time. One of the days my sister and her family came down, and our whole group, along with my friend and her kids, had a great time playing on the sand. There were six under age three and it was a blast!
Aside from the beach we took some side trips on the peninsula. Up to Oysterville to see then cannery on Willipa Bay and the Oysterville Historic District. Visited the Cranberry Museum. We also drove down to Illwaco to the port picked up some art by artist Don Nisbett at the Red Door gallery and had a nice fish ‘n’ chips lunch.
I love the beach and always have a good time. Had great fun doing one of my Couch to 5K runs on the sand. Sipping coffee, enjoying good company, eating saltwater taffy. You just can’t beat a trip to Long Beach.
