Cabin Fever Day

Today is one of those rare days where Em has school but the big man doesn’t. The district has an early release today and since Jack’s kindergarten is a half day setup they can’t get both the AM and PM classes in and out by the time the upper grades are released so Kindergarteners just don’t have school on these days. Jack’s only complaint is that we have to double up on homework during these weeks so he can turn his weekly packet in on Thursday instead of Friday. The horror!

Needless to say this also means the kids can sleep in a little since Emilie doesn’t have to be at school until 8:45. I like this since it is choosing to snow again this morning and if I can put off driving in it until the sun’s fully risen I’m a happier lady. Monday it snowed during the morning commute and anything over 35mph and you’d see your life flash before your eyes. Not looking to do that again any time soon.

Local businesses offer discounted or free class/activities throughout the day and you can pick and choose what you want to do. After checking out the brochure we went down to the Library where they offered a scavenger hunt in the city park across the street.

The had the story “The Mitten” printed out on various sign posts and the kids each got a worksheet. As we traveled from station to station they had to put in order the animals as they crawled into the mitten. Plus there were some hidden mittens along the trail that they had to find and count. They kids had a blast! Emilie even walked/ran the whole thing, which is surprising as, if its looking to be a ‘long’ walk, she’ll ask to be carried after the first fifteen steps or so.

It wasn’t too cold or to warm for the event, but it was chilly. The hot cocoa and doughnut holes after the hunt was over really hit the spot. Then. of course, Jack had to check out as many books as he could carry despite having been to the Library a few days prior and doing the same thing then. He loves his books. He’s starting to have more discretion over his choices too rather than randomly grabbing everything with a tractor or truck on the cover.

Well, the sun is coming up now and I can see what it’s doing outside. Starting to think we just going to skip preschool today and declare a snow day. Why drive in this white stuff if you really don’t have too? That means I’m off to get out the hot cocoa stuff, then gather up the snow gear.
