Saturday was the annual Kid’s Fest put on by the local hospital (St. Luke’s). It’s one of those fun free events where local business aimed at kids/families get their name out to the public. There is always an array of activities and you get lots of new pencils, rulers, stickers, coloring books, and other assorted nick-knacks. Kind of like the fair, but on a smaller scale. ![]()
The best part, in my opinion, is beforehand. They kick off the event by having a kid’s fun run put on by the hospital’s YEAH (Youth Engaged in Activities for Health) program. It’s a one mile run just for kids 12 and under. Of course Mom & Dad are encouraged to participate as well.
Of course I couldn’t resist having the kids do a run. Emilie even made the local news (click the hyperlink for the video). I’m thinking she was too hard to resist in her headband and arm warmers. She really was rocking a great 80’s look. I was hoping she would run, but she did so much running around before the race started that she wanted carried during the actual run. Jack was a bit nervous beforehand because there were a lot of people and he doesn’t do crowds. However, once he got running he did great! I think he ran about half the total distance. The other half he walked and/or got a piggy-back ride.
After the run we got some chocolate milk…perfect post-race pick-me-up… from the Meadow Gold booth. The kids road the mini train. Emilie entered the Milk Mustache contest, and we looked at the police cars and fire trucks. By the time we finished all that it was hot and muggy and everyone was pooped so we headed home. Looking forward to more runs with the kiddos in the future!
