My family is pretty darn good about making me feel appreciated year round so I don’t feel the need for them to go out of their way on Mother’s Day for the most part. They do anyway, which makes it all the more special.
This year my good friend Effie was in town so after we went to church and we all called our mother’s it was decided to just go for a drive and see what we could see. I’ve always wanted to go up and see the Camas prairie near Fairfield when it’s in bloom. None of us was sure if the timing was right but it gave us a general direction in which to head.
We took the “longer” way around through Shoshone and past the ice caves out in the lava beds, stopped in Fairfield for lunch, and then headed on out to see if luck was in our favor.
It was! We were probably a few days off the peak of the blooms but you could get the gist. There was just a sea of blue with red-winged black birds and meadowlarks adding color here and there.
The kids had a great time throwing rocks into the water and the adults just soaked in the scenery. It was a bit hard to leave. We consoled ourselves by stopping in Buhl for ice cream on the way home.
I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother’s Day!
