Happy Easter!

He is risen, he is risen indeed, Alleluia!

My wish is that everyone enjoyed their Easter just as much as we did. Technically Easter was Sunday but we pretty much celebrated from Good Friday onward.

IMG_9186Friday the kids had their parties at school and then, that night, we dyed eggs. The older the kids get the more excited they are about these holiday traditions and it makes it just that much more fun. Jack was over the moon about egg dying. He saw an episode of “Special Agent Oso” that featured egg dying and  informed several times that he, Jack, knew the ‘3 special steps’ to dye eggs.  Truth is he did. He was whipping those eggs in and out of the dye with a spoon like a pro. We actually had to remind him that there were colors other than green to dye with, and that sometimes you want to let the eggs to soak a bit so they pick up more color.

IMG_9190Emilie, my little, artist, picked up drawing on the eggs with a crayon pretty fast. Kevin helped her with the dying part and she ended up with some good looking ones….and only spilled one cup of dye.

After dying we put the kids in the tub, cleaned up the egg dye, and made sure the eggs were good and dry. Then, one the kids were in their jammies, they decorated their eggs with stickers. I think both of them enjoyed this part the most. We ended up with some real beauties. Now, since I am the only one who eats hardboiled eggs, I have a whole dozen to consume! Smile with tongue out

Saturday the kids did their second Egg hunt. We’re not much for huge crowds and such, but the Lutheran Church and School out in Clover had a flier in the our bulletin last week saying they were having an egg hunt and since the weather was soooo gorgeous on Saturday we decided to try and swing it.

IMG_9212Turned out to be a good decision as we discover that the Clover church and school is home to the most AWESOME old-school playground ever. We’re talking metal pipe framing, culver slides, tractor tire sandboxes, rickety merry-go-round. All those wonderful childhood playground elements that today are deemed complete safety hazards! Like I said…..AWESOME!!!!!

The best part was a big tall metal slide. Two flights of steps two get you to the top, then WHEEEEEEE all the way down! The kids had sooooooo much fun! (yes, they enjoyed egg hunting, but the playground really eclipsed it all.)

IMG_9234Sunday was the big day. The Bunny crept in sometime during the night and loaded up the kids’ baskets with way too much sugar as usual. Speaking of the kids they were up by 6am. Big Thanks to both sets of grandparents and Hendrickson cousins for their basket contributions. There was an Easter breakfast served by the youth at church but that didn’t stop them from loading up on sweets before hand.

Finally, it was off to church for that afore mentioned breakfast, a wonderful Easter sermon, and our last Egg hunt. Then it was back home where we just kind of chilled out for the rest of the day. The weather could not have been nicer so we played outside for a long time. In the afternoon Kevin rotisserie roasted a prime rib (sooooo yummy) and made Whiskey Crème sauce along with sourdough bread, asparagus, and mashed potatoes.

Through all this family time and fun it is important to remember why we are celebrating. Christ died on the cross to pay the ultimate debt for us all. Such an amazing gift and something to most definitely be celebrated. Happy Easter to you all.
