Happy Birthday Jack!

Playing a little catch-up….you are gone for one week for the holiday and you get all behind. Ahhhhh, such is life.

IMG_0114Yesterday check has his 4 year old well-child checkup. Can you believe he’s 4 already. It wasn’t that long ago that we brought the little 10lb turkey home just in time for Thanksgiving.

IMG_8222But here he is 4 years later, happy, healthy, and growing. At his appointment yesterday he was 36.6lbs and 37 inches high.

Despite he’s impressive birth-stats he’s not a big kid for he age. His height is smack on the 25th percentile and his weight is higher than that which can indicate obesity. However after looking him over the Dr. Trotter noted he’s well proportioned and definitely NOT overweight. He’s just really solid. The Dr’s quote was, “Look at those leg muscles!” (He also said it’s possible we’re on the verge of a growth spurt.)

Well to summarize he’s healthy and developing just like he should both mentally and physically. The only “unhappy” part of the visit was the dreaded kindergarten shots….da da dum. I forgot to tell the nurse that he kicks like a mule and I think she took a solid whack to the thigh with the first poke (after that she held his legs better)…hope she doesn’t have too much of a bruise today. Flu shot included he got 4 shots in all MMR, Chicken Pox, Polio, and the aforementioned flu. He’s now done with vaccines until age 11. Yea!!!

As for his birthday itself. We were in Moses Lake this year since his birthday fell the day after Thanksgiving. It was pretty cool to have grandparents and cousins for party guests!

First we took all four kids over to the Great-grandparents for ice cream. The kids spent some time playing with Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa’s toy collection and providing general entertainment. Jack is in absolute love with the Memory game they gave him. At least once a day he’s asking to “make matches.”

While we were doing that Kevin and Frank were off picking up Chico’s. You can’t go to Moses Lake with out having Chico’s, specifically the Hochstatter, What better occasion to indulge than a birthday? (For those of you not in the know the Hochstatter is the most incredible pizza on the planet….bacon, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, cheese and olives, in piles and oh so yummy). So once they returned it was pizza for dinner followed by birthday cake & presents.

Jack’s birthday cake this year was lots of fun for me to make. He picked out construction plates and napkins at the party store so I was already planning on doing a construction cake. Then I saw this 'pin’ on Pintrest. I said to myself…”AWESOME! Bet I can do that (to the interior)!” Here are the results:

It was a hit…and it was pretty yummy too!

Thanks again to everyone for their well-wishes, gifts, and cards. His new construction equipment has been helping haul and load things all over the house. (I caught him trying to use his mini-loader as a spoon for his cereal yesterday morning.) We’ve also been reading and re-reading his new books…he’s well on the way to wearing them out.
