The last three years we’ve done a softball tournament on the first weekend in June. This year we decided to rebel, and instead took the kids down to the Western days and watched the parade.
Jack loves parades because they have all those wonderful trucks, and police cars, and fire engines, and ambulances, and garbage trucks…. There was even a helicopter!
Emilie seemed fascinated by all the lights and sounds. This was a HUGE improvement over her first parade. She was two months old when we took her to the parade at the Lind Combine Derby. She was snoozing peacefully and then one of the entries fired a gun. It was all over after that. Both of us had fun watch the horse entries. The mini horses pulling bathtub wagons was cute, but I think the ‘dancing’ horses with the Hispanic riders were our favorite….well they were my favorite anyway. These animals literally DANCED down the parade route! Not to mention there were some beautifully colored animals as well.
What, this particular type of horsemanship is called escapes me at the moment. Is this dressage or something similar? Perhaps one of my equine enthusiast friends can enlighten me.
The one downfall to the day…well there were two actually. The first was that it was HOT. The second was that the parade just kept coming! We didn’t see the end because the kiddos were getting cranky in the heat. So we did a quick walkthrough of the carnival/vendors and then went down the fountain on Main Street. There when ran into Jack’s friend from preschool, JB, and his family. Turns out they had similar ideas on the length of the parade and how to beat the heat!
After a wade in the fountain we came home for lunch and then put the kids down for some much needed naps! All around a very good day.
