Memorial Day Weekend

This year is my in-law’s 40th wedding anniversary (June 17). Kevin read me a factoid a few days back that said after 40 years of marriage only 1 in every 1000 marriages will end in divorce. So I think it’s safe to say they’ve made it ! ;-P

Anyway…. When asked what they wanted for their anniversary the response was to have all the kids/grandkids together at the same time, in the same place. So we all consulted our day timers, calendars, online event trackers, and other such mediums and arrived at Memorial Day weekend. Done!

Emilie didn’t sleep more than 15 minutes the whole way, but she wasn’t too fussy either. She played with toys, squawked at her brother a bit, and watched traffic. Jack named the vehicles that passed the window, played with his toys, and spent close to an hour reading the “Tractor House” & “Truck & Trailer” auction magazines he picked up at the gas station in Fruitland. They were both fantastic and we set a new record for getting to Grandma and Grandpa’s…nine hours!

Kevin’s sister and her husband and brother and his family all arrived Friday afternoon and then we let the fun begin. Saturday was spent constructing the swing set (see previous post). Sunday, we mostly relaxed. Ate too much food, played on the new swing set, took naps….all that fun stuff.

Monday we went down to a park on the lake for a picnic. There was an awesome playground that all the kids enjoyed. Brandon tried to teach Jack how to roll down a hill. Jack needs some fine tuning, but I think he’s got the general idea.

As usual there was an over abundance of incredibly yummy food available the entire weekend. Kevin made BBQ chicken and Chocolate Lover’s Delight Dutch oven cake. Cory grilled ribs. There was homemade ice cream, s’mores, and chocolate chip cookies of course. Everybody was stuffed to the gills! We’ll all have to do some extra laps this week to compensate. ;-P

Grandma brought out some trikes and roller scooters the everyone enjoyed riding. Grandpa even ploughed up a patch of the lawn so the kids could have a place to dig with their loaders and dump trucks. As usual the trip home was full of good people, good fun, good food, and lots of good memories!
