All summer long we have been trying to get to Zoo Boise and finally, last Friday, we succeeded!
It was Emilie’s first trip to the Zoo. For the first part she rode around in the front pack and enjoyed looking at all the sights and sounds. However, it was HOT and muggy (she drank 8oz in a 3 hour period) and the heat eventually got the best of her and she passed out in the stroller.
At first Jack was cranky too. A combination of the heat and the fact that we were pushing against lunch/naptime. However, and ice cream sandwich later and he was ready to see the critters.
It is hard to tell what Jack’s favorite part of the Zoo is. The tube slide at the Spider Monkey exhibit is always a hit. The slide parallels the monkey’s outdoor exhibit so you can a bird's-eye view from the top of the slide. We spend a large junk of time here every trip.
Of course feeding the goats and sheep at the Petting Farm is always a hit too…well as long as Mom and Dad remember to bring quarters so he can actually feed the critters. We forgot once and man was he disappointed.
Can’t you just hear that goat in the below right picture saying, “pssst, pssssst, hey kid, slide me a nibble…no one has to know!”
My favorite part was the new Butterfly garden. There were some incredible butterflies and they were all flying around the enclosed garden. You had to walk with caution to be sure you didn’t step on one! Jack was torn between thinking they were really cool like the ones in his books, and being terrified of these huge flying insects. One landed on his shirt for a few seconds and his eyes were big a saucers! I was holding Emilie (who was working on her second bottle at that point) so Kevin took the butterfly pictures below.
Aside from the Zoo critters Jack & I have one other ‘favorite’ animal at the Zoo. They live outside the Zoo in the surrounding park and are quite accustomed, even demanding, of human interaction.
Kevin tolerates us feeding the Canada geese….they aren’t Seagulls at least. Kevin doesn’t care for Seagulls. Long story short, one pooped in his open lunchbox when he was a kid and he hasn’t cared for them since. Can’t say I blame him.
Anyway, despite the heat we still had a great day at the Zoo and can’t wait to go again!

Kevin had better enter those butterfly pictures in the Fair. Great job!

Glad you enjoyed your trip to the zoo. If you ever make it to Nashville there is a behind the scenes tour waiting for you. Love the updates. Not so good with my blog.
