The Pumpkin Patch

Today we took Jack on his first ever trip to the Pumpkin Patch. It was much more of an undertaking than I had expected since the only patch we could find was three-quarters of the way to Bosie near the Breanu Sand Dunes. (about 1.5 hour drive from home)

I searched high and low for a local patch and found haunted houses, corn mazes, and other fall activities, but no pumpkin patches. Apparantly, folks around here get their pumpkin from the store. Well, that is not what I wanted. Though he really is indifferent at this point, I really wanted to take Jack to the pumpkin patch.

Kevin, being the guy he is, located the Quey's Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze. Did I mention that though it was 1.5 hours from home it was a mere 10 minute drive from the patch to Kevin's Antelope Unit?

Well, we got bundled up and went out to the patch only to be me with balmy 76 degree temperatures when we got there - go figure! So after chucking a few layers (not too many the wind was still blowing) it was on to the patch. Along with the maze and pumpkins there was a hay ride, mini hay-bale maze for the kids, water troughs filled with corn or wheat kernels, shovels, and buckets, plus a huge pyramid of hay to climb (all with the proper liability labels ,"climb at your own risk," of course ;P )

Jack enjoyed beating on the pumpkins. They make a thump thump sound that is music to 10-month old ears. He also like the hay pyramid. We took him about half-way up and he seemed to enjoy looking down at the people below (like dad). Maybe that is because he spends most of his time looking up at people.

We didn't do the corn maze as it was large enough to need a good chunk of time to complete. My Jack-O-Meter indicated he wouldn't last that long without sustenance and we didn't want to find ourselves lost in the middle of a corn maze with a screaming hungry baby. There is always next year for that...the maze that is, not the screaming baby.

Afterwards, we let Jack crash in his carseat and drove through the Antelope Unit just in case there was a slow disoriented speed goat willing to sacrifice itself for the cause....there wasn't.

Maybe you need to have a seasonal farm--Jack's pumpkin farm--next year. You could find yourselves with a lot of visitors if the closest one is 90 miles away!

I'm seriously considering it! We even have goats to pet!
