Off to the Races

I will admit we're not the most spontaneous family on the planet, but every now and them something pops up that just sounds fun. Last weekend we were driving down the main drag in town and saw a flatbed parked out front of the Red Lion Inn. On the bed were more semis. Not just any semis mind you, souped up racing semis. We looked at one another grinned, then looked up the racing schedule out at the speedway and sure enough Canadian Big Rig racing was featured Saturday night. Definitely something that would capture both kids.

It was a blast. Seeing big trucks like that haul around a short track is pretty neat. Jack was in heaven. His favorite was the Green semi. Emilie choose the pink one. They had a fantastic time cheering for their truck. Even better I managed, out of sheer dumb luck, to snag a t-shirt when they were using the t-shirt cannon which made Mommy all sorts of awesome. Both kids wanted it and they worked out a deal where they share and alternate nights wearing it to bed. Its a 2XL so they are both swimming in it, but don't seem to mind.

Aside from the semis they had the regular speedway cars and double-decker racing. What is double-decker racing you ask? Well, it seems they weld to cars together one on top of the other. The bottom one is given control over gas & break while the top car has the steering capability. Two drivers operate the car and race around the track. The catch is they are not allowed to communicate with each other while racing. Its pretty neat to watch. There are some fantastic driving teams out there. Unfortunately it was dark and I didn't get any good shots of that event.

It was a great way to spend a Saturday night and a fun experience for the kids. We'll have to keep a closer eye on upcoming events as I heard a rumor of an RV Demo derby later in the summer???
