Jack’s preschool graduation ceremony was today. Sheesh it’s going to be September and time for Kindergarten to start in a heartbeat. He’s ready…not so sure about me. Anyway…..
Jack’s preschool seems to go all out for their graduates (haven’t been to a lot of preschool graduations lately but I just get that vibe). They get to wear little caps and gowns and each kid gets a souvenir tassel along with a ‘diploma’. I must say that Jack really can pull off wearing a Mortarboard with the best of them.
The school has a small gym that really fills fast once you add in all the graduates, teachers, plus one or two family members for each child. Taking decent pictures was no easy feet as I had to jockey for position with all the other snap happy parents. But what a day to be snap happy!!
After the kids marched in they sat in chairs while each of the two main teachers gave a little speech about what they enjoyed about their classes. Miss Loretta, Jack’s teacher, noted that she loved the imagination of her students and talked about how they play ‘tornado’ on the playground whenever the wind blows (and it blows often here). This game involves lots of shrieking, running in circles, and then diving for cover under the slide. The also like to make trains out of the classroom chairs. Then all the kids sit in their train ‘seats’ and read books until it’s time to get off and have a picnic.
Once the speeches were done the kids sang a couple of cute songs including “The Good Ship Lollipop” and one about Tooty-tah-tah or something along those lines that had a great little dance along with it. (That’s the video at the bottom. I apologize in advance the quality and cinematography is ghastly but you’ll get the gist
) They also sang the Idaho County song that they’ve been working so hard on. It was pretty impressive to see the kids list all the counties in the state alphabetically. It was even more impressive that Jack not only sang along but even did hand motions and danced a bit.
By the time all that was done most of the kids were ready to strip of their robes and find their parents but they managed (barely) to get through the distribution of their diplomas. Then all bets were off and it was a mad dash to the cookie table. I did manage to get a couple of pictures of Jack with his friend Brynlee, his sister, and his teacher before he disrobed completely.
Then we went out to the Flying-J on the highway for ice cream. Yep, you read that right we went to a gas station/truck stop to celebrate and if you know Jack you know this was totally his choice (well the ice cream part was my idea). Turns out it’s actually a pretty fun way to celebrate graduating preschool.
