Sawtooth Relay

I know what you are thinking given the title of this blog post but, HAHA, this is not a post about my running escapades. This one is about Kevin. Our friend Brian convinced Kevin to be on his relay team this year and run the Sawtooth Relay from Stanley to Ketchum, ID. Kevin is not an avid runner by any means, but it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to run through country like this AND say that you participated in the Sawtooth Relay.

All the guys know each other casually through a mutual love for hunting. Brain worked to bring them together and form relay team “Yo Yo Smugglers.” (Yes, the name…I know. But hey, they originally wanted to be “6 Cocks in Tube Socks”…but that got turned down). What better way to get in shape from hunting season but to run?

Anyway, here are the Yo Yo Smugglers: (Brian is on the far left and Kevin is second from the end on the right….you’ll have to get him to tell you who everyone else is)

DSC_1822They did very well and finished in 9 hours and 43 minutes (On Facebook I gave them 8 minutes and said they finished in 9:34…my bad). Each guy ran twice for a total of 10 miles each, more or less. The total race distance is 62 miles. They even get to run up and over Galena Summit (8,701ft). No injuries, lots of fun, and they all went home pumped to do it again next year.DSC_1879

Look at the elevation on the course map….It’s daunting isn’t it? Rolling on the floor laughing  Wouldn’t it be awesome to say you completed that? Sounds like the guys are planning a repeat attendance for next year. I think I’m going to put together a ladies team to give them a run for their money. What do you say my fellow team Slow Pokers???
