Escape to Boise

As mentioned in my last post we were all starting to feel a little stir-crazy. It was decided that we needed a good family outing. Therefore when our friend Brain asked if we were going to go to the Outdoor Expo in Boise we jumped at it. Saturday we piled into the car and made the drive west.

The Expo itself was alright. All the state and federal agencies you’d expect to see (Parks & Rec, USFS, USFWS, State FWS) were all there. Lots of outfitter guides were represented, and there was also just about any sportsman’s group you could imagine. Mule Deer Foundation, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk, Idaho Trappers, Idaho Bow hunters, Wild Turkey Federation, etc. There was a club for just about every critter under the sun. Well, not all of them…I didn’t see the Weasel Federation, Whistle Pigs (prairie dogs) United, or Rockchucks (groundhogs/marmots) Forever. In fact rodents, on the whole, were woefully unrepresented Smile with tongue out.

We even got daring and left the stroller at home. Emilie rode in the back pack and Jack walked. Got to hand it to Jack he made it, on foot, through the majority of the Expo. There was one instance toward the end however where he stripped off his jacket, kicked off his shoes, climbed on the bed in an RV and announced he was taking a nap. Guess that means he’s done, huh?

We left the Expo and drove over to the MK Nature Center to let the kids run a bit. There is an awesome playground right next door to the center so between that and exploring the nature center trails we had the kids pretty much wore out by 4pm….just in time to meet Brian for dinner.

For dinner we went to the Boise Fry Company . If you haven’t tried it I recommend it. It is basically a burger and fry joint. However, fries are the man dish at this establishment and burgers are the side. There are about 8 types of potatoes to choose from, which each come in numerous cuts (curly, home-style, tots, etc.). There is also a wide variety of ketchups from which to choose. My favorite was the Blueberry ketchup followed by the Chipotle ketchup.

Needless to say we had a full day Saturday. I think cabin fever has been cured for the time being.
