An ‘Orphans & Outlaws’ Thanksgiving

You may wonder what an ‘Orphans & Outlaws’ Thanksgiving is, well let me enlighten you.  ‘Orphans’ are those who have no relatives in an easily reachable distance. We’re too woosey to risk the mountain passes, airplane tickets are too pricey, and so forth. ‘Outlaws’ are those who avoid or are not welcome at their own family gathering. Pretty much, we all had nowhere else to go.IMG_3864

We’re a diverse bunch, this year we represented not only four different home states, but three different countries! Not many gathered around the Thanksgiving table can make that claim.

As usual there was waaaaayyyy too much food. I think we came home with leftovers that exceeded the amount of food we took….and we brought the turkey! Unlike last year there was no shortage of wine corks. After last year’s “marine-provision” of a screw and a pair of pliers to open a wine bottle everybody brought a wine cork. I think we ended up with 3 altogether.

IMG_3866I took my American Trivia game. It seemed appropriate given the holiday. We all fared quite well too, though there was a definite weak spot in the category on American Literature. Sports, Geography, and History were well covered.

As you can see from the above picture, Jack succumbed to a tryptophan coma after dinner. Either that or between his birthday the day prior and Thanksgiving the day of he was just plain pooped.
