This past weekend we had a visit from some vary good friends. Christy has been one of my best and closest friend since middle school. These days between jobs, babies, and that whole living in two different states thing, we don’t get to see each other to often. So we were more than thrilled when Christy, Justin, and their little girl Abby (18M) decided to visit us during their summer vacation.
Besides just catching up on all the news we also did some sightseeing around the area. Dierkes Lake is a place we have been fishing in the fall, but had never ventured to during the summer. We decided to try it out since it was warm outside and the price was must cheaper than the city pool. Turns out it is a really great place to go have a picnic and swim! There is a swimming area and within that area there is a shallow section corralled off with Jersey barriers for little kids. Both Jack and Abby had a blast splashing in the water and jumping off the dock. We adults had a great time as well. Emilie mostly snoozed on a blanket on the shore; next year she can enjoy the water.
Aside from the lake (which we went to twice). We also hit up Balanced Rock and the City of Rocks. As I think about it, many of the local tourist destinations involve rocks… Oakely with its Oakley stone, Craters of the Moon (lava rocks), City of Rocks, Balanced Rock. Guess we’ve got nice rocks ‘round here….
We also spent quite a bit of time at the house letting the kids play in the sprinkler, harass the dogs, and just chill. Abby and Jack hit it off. The first few days after they left Jack kept asking, “Where Abby?” Guess he misses having a playmate in the house. Better get Emilie up and walking soon I suppose?
As you can see from the small sampling of pictures (seriously I took soooooo many cute ones) we had a great time. We’re hoping to get to return the visit in August during our trip to see my folks. We’re thinking the kids would love a trip to the zoo.![]()
