The One That Got Away

There’s one every year, it never fails. You spend hours carefully packing all those Christmas decorations up for another year. You coax your husband off the couch on a Sunday afternoon and convince him to lug boxes back to the garage, basement, attic, etc. You feel accomplished!

Then a few days later…maybe a week…it appears. The one that got away. That one little item that somehow escaped your careful search for all things Christmas. Maybe it was hanging out under the couch, or on the bookshelf. Maybe it was hiding under that stack of credit card statements. You know…the ones that make you say, “ I spent HOW MUCH on Christmas!,” then make you feel broke and tighten your financial belt until at least March. Either way its there, mocking you.

Usually it’s so small that you just don’t feel it is worth dragging out the decoration box to store it way. You’ll put it on a shelf or counter that self-appointed itself for collecting such odds and ends. It’ll catch your eye throughout the year and you’ll remind yourself to put it away next year. Maybe it will even make a friend. A ceramic bunny from Easter perhaps? A jaunty little leprechaun from St. Paddy’s day.

Either way it is here to stay….the one that got away.

yeah. has so happened here. Especially when the kids got their own trees in their room. I started a little christmas gift bag in the closet to collect all the runaways.
